The 2021 installment of the annual Lectio Vergiliana, a performative reading Lingua
Latine (in Latin) of a portion of Vergil's Aeneid will take place on Friday,
March 5 from 10am - 2pm.
This event will feature students, professors, and anyone else interested in joining taking turns reading (in Latin) books 3 and 4 of the Aeneid.
As an audience member, you can read along with the English translation on-screen as you listen to the story the way it was
meant to be heard!
Book 3 begins Aeneas' voyage away from Troy, in which he relates his wanderings and encounters with Andromache, Harpies, Cyclopes, Charybdis, etc.
In Book 4, Dido falls further in love with Aeneas, and they get married. When Jupiter orders Aeneas to leave Tyre, Dido cannot persuade him to stay. After he leaves, she forswears him and commits suicide. These books will definitely be a great read!
